Learning Outcome #5 (document work MLA)

Outcome 5 (Document Work MLA) – Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA)

One thing that I have improved upon drastically in my source integration is the process by which I introduce a work and an author to my audience. While I used to struggle to integrate, and especially introduce sources, through the help of Professor Brod and our classroom discussions, I have found a rhythm in which to do this successfully. I am going to provide examples of this in all 3 of my essays to really see the progression.

Example from essay #1

The highlighted writing in pink are additions by Professor Brod on my final draft that really helped strengthen my understanding of how to properly cite sources and authors in an essay, however, my 2nd essay lacked strong source introduction.

These independent examples from my 2nd essay show rather weak source introductions, I think. I personally do not like the way I cited these sources, because they were separated in my essay and not connected to one another. Realizing that I did not like this format, I reverted back to an approach similar to essay #1 and introduced the sources together within my introduction. I also did not properly cite with page numbers in this essay, which is something I needed to pay much more attention to in essay #3.

As these examples from my 3rd essay show, I introduced my sources in a way that creates more correlation and connection, and I also made sure to properly cite my quotes with a page number after naming the author(s). I think the 3rd essay was my strongest when it came to source integration and maintaining my own voice.
